Introduced in July 2002, the NPPL is designed to offer an alternative to the European JAR for pilots intending to use the privileges of their licence for day leisure flying in the UK only.

The course consists of a minimum of 32 hours' flying training (plus tests), following an approved syllabus, to include ten hours' solo flight time of which four hours' will be solo cross country flight.

Ground examinations are identical to those for the JAR syllabus. Medical requirements include an HGV-standard medical from your GP. Microlight licence holders wishing to convert to the NPPL (A) will need to complete 9 hours flying training (3-axis pilots) or 30 hours (flexwing pilots)
